A call to the help desk states they "can't see" GRE when logged in as mso, however, evrything I'm finding online states it's a simple checkbox for them to enable me to see it and utilize it in the port forwarding section. Currenly I have only "both", "udp", and "tcp" available.

PPTP uses a TCP control channel and a Generic Routing Encapsulation tunnel to encapsulate PPP packets. Many modern VPNs use various forms of UDP for this same functionality.. The PPTP specification does not describe encryption or authentication A connection between the VPN server and the VPN client x.x.x.x has been established, but the VPN connection cannot be completed. GRE (Generic Routing Encapsulation) is the part of PPTP that inhibits NAT. VPN passthrough replaces GRE with an upgraded GRE which is compatible with NAT. PPTP relies on port 1723, which has the TCP channel. This channel facilitates control while the GRE protocol helps PPTP to encapsulate information and establish the VPN tunnel.

I've setup the port forwarding rules for PPTP on the Fios router MI424WR Gen-2 (1723 TCP + GRE) but no avail. The Internet clients clearly see the VPN server on my home network, but they are not able to establish the data connection (hangs on "opening the connection" or "verifying the username/password" depending on the client).
