In order to limit bandwith usage however my idea was to have an Local PC be able to resolve the internal IP of the host. So I set up a DNS server. The idea is that this server only resolves hosts which reside on local network. By default, sinkholing is enabled for all Palo Alto Networks DNS signatures, and the sinkhole IP address is set to access a Palo Alto Networks server. Use the instructions in this section if you want to set the sinkhole IP address to a local server on your network. Otherwise, you won’t even be able to access the website locally (from the same system the server is on), as the Proxy will attempt to resolve the domain.name itself to an IP address using outside DNS instead of Local DNS (which resolves the domain name to 127.0.0.1). Savings on network traffic: If I resolve from my local DNS server, I don't use bandwidth on the internet. For slow network connections or where I have to pay per MB, every little bit helps. Reliable: It is up whenever my gateway is up, which is more often than my ISP DNS server is up. BTW, I use dnsmasq for my DNS server.
